Christmas is here!

I started this a couple months ago and never finished. This was right around the time that I suspected I was pregnant and definitely had my typical "all day" sickness.  I didn't want to leave any of these moments out of my blog, so now it is more of a collage. I will be working on a 2012 post while my girls nap ... I hope.

We have been celebrating big this Christmas season. Staring off with the Nutcracker Tea, I think my girls are hooked on ballet. They called every ballerina "a princess".  They had a great time and so did I!
Can't wait until they are old enough for the full production!

Just being silly.

Can you hear me laughing?

Sabrina, you can't take a bite out of me!

Look at me pull up!

Fall Back

Well, thank goodness for the time change, I theoretically have an extra hour to play with tonight. Since, I missed my October post, I will use that extra hour to my advantage. The girls are still growing way too fast. Miss Sabrina is now 6 months old: babbling, rolling over, sitting up in a tripod, and now is a Gymboree baby! Mia and Livvy are just becoming little ladies before my eyes.

Livvy is just the funniest little specimen. She has this sense of humor that is ingrained, you can't teach it. When you as her to bring you something, she asks "this?" with a gleam in her eye, knowing full well that is not what you're asking for. Sometimes she even pretends to pull nothing from behind her back.

Example conversation:
Mommy: "Can I have the remote?"
Livvy: "This?" (holding up a toy)
Mommy: "No"
Livvy: "This?" (holding a comb)
Mommy: "No"
Livvy: "OH! This?" Smile even bigger.

Mia on the other hand is all about what she wants.

Mommy: "Do you want apples?"
Mia: "Mmmm, how about strawberries?"
Mommy: "I need to buy some. Want grapes?"
Mia: "Mmmm, how abouuuuut .... ummm strawberries?!"
Mommy: "We don't have any."
Mia: "Mmm, okay, apples. Mommy buy strawberries."

They are loving gymnastics, or nastics, as they call it. Mia is definitely part monkey. Her ability to climb and swing on the rope astound me. She even pretends to be coach Kim at home. The other day, Mia put a clipboard on the floor. Walked across it, holding her arms out. Then turns to Livvy "Can you walk across the bridge?" Then, demonstrates again. "Like that, can you do that?"

And they are still quite the performers. They used to just think they knew the words to songs. Now they are singing along almost completely accurately. And of course, Sabrina thinks she is singing with them too. The big girls sing to her on a regular basis. They love their Baby Rina. Who, Mia occasionally calls, Sabrina now. ~Sigh~

New favorite words and phrases:
*That's silly
* How about ...
*Next song. I don't like this one.
* Bye-bye door
* Thank you much
* empty ... no more "all gone"

Kids say and do the darndest things!

The conversations today are keeping me giggling. Again, nothing inappropriate, just entertaining.

Today, Mia has taken a liking to the word "great". Everything today is great. She is not using it as an adjective, but more like a declaration. Example:
Mia: "Livvy, eat cereal, okay?"
Livvy: "Okay."
Mia: "Okay, great."

Mia: "Livvy, purple cup? Purple cup, okay?"
Livvy: "No pink cup."
Mia: "Purple cup? Okay?" (Nodding)
Livvy: "Okay."
Mia: "Great!"

Livvy's future as a cheerleader becomes more realized everyday. If you need a boost, just come over, she cheers for visitors.  Arms in a v, yelling "yeah". I am waiting for the day she starts to say "Give me an A".

When Livvy is asked to do something, say put her cup in the sink, she yells "oka-ay". As if she is in another room and she wants you to know she's there. As opposed to standing right next to you.

When Mia is asked to to something, she repeats the order to you, like a waitress.
Mommy: "Mia, can you put the bottle in the sink for Mommy?"
Mia: "In the sink?"
Mommy: "Yes, in the sink."
Mia: "In the sink!" (Nodding) "Okay."

And the biggest event of the day, Sabrina rolled over. She has been reluctant to completely roll over. She will roll to her side, then go back. Something tells me she has Livvy's sense of humor. She knows what we're waiting for and she will tease us for a while. This is my rapidly growing girl right after her effortless roll. Aunt Patti just put her down in the middle of the mat for tummy time. In about 2 seconds she was on her back, in the corner of the mat. If the arch hadn't been there, I think she may have kept going.

Aunt Patti put the headband on Sabrina (approx 4.5 mos)

I love seeing outfits that the twins wore on baby sister. And here is the same outfit on Mia, on the same activity mat. Mia is about 5.5 months in this picture. ~sigh~ Love my girls!

Sick - Party of Four

Despite summer still holding on with 100 degree temperature highs, the Imperial girls all have colds. Of course, you wouldn't know it except for the occasional elevated temperature or the runny nose.s. My big girls are as entertaining as ever. But little missy (Sabrina) is just pitiful. There is not a more pitiful sound than the mouth breathing of a 4 month old, especially when it gets raspy. I absolutely hate that there is so little that I can do about relieving those symptoms for her. Except, of course, squirt saline solution up her nose and suck out all the mucus with a bulb syringe. Good times. Thank goodness she is too young to remember this torture.

Speaking of little missy, she has now learned how to jump in her doorway jumper. She bends those knees and pushes off like a pro. In no time, she will be an expert just like her sister Livvy. We couldn't get her out of that thing. And little missy is laughing out loud like a little girl. It's just too sweet.

The things coming out of my girls mouths are still cracking me up. Not because they are inappropriate actually quite the opposite. I have mentioned before that I am hearing the back and forth conversations that make sense. And the pearls just keep coming:

* When I tell Mia that we are out of something, she tells me "You gotta buy some"
* Livvy comes downstairs without Mia, Mia yells for her sister "Livvy!". Livvy answers "Mia, downstairs!". Mia responds "Okay" then comes downstairs too.
* Aunt Bubbie wants to hold Mia and she doesn't just say no, her response is "No, I want my mommy."
* Lots of "Come on", "Let's dance", "I want to play", "I'm coming!"
* I was putting saline in their nostrils yesterday and Livvy put up a huge fight, big surprise! It was so funny, she is squirming, I am pinning her hands that keep swatting at the bottle. I finally get a couple drops in and she smiles at me and says "That's it?" Classic.

* Mia is my parrot and is constantly repeating the directions I give, usually to her sister. It's better than hearing her repeat "crap". :)
Last time we saw this trashcan, it was a drum.

Peek-a-boo, I see you!

We have started school, gymnastics and MOPS, finally settling into a routine. And then the illness hits to throw us for a loop. Let's see how we recover. More stories to come!

Girls of Summer

Whew! It has been a long, hot summer and it's not over yet. I spent many months wondering what life would be like when my third child arrived. There is just no predicting the unknown. Like it is with life, you learn as you go. In my short tenure of being a mother of three, I have figured out that some things are easier and some things more difficult than I thought. As I had a habit of doing in the classroom, I am borrowing ideas from my colleagues. In this case, a fellow mom. Thanks Jen, for the idea, I will be borrowing a likeness of the format used in your last post.

What is easier than I thought it would be: Going out with 3 children under the age of 3. Livvy and Mia can be surprisingly obedient when I really need them to be. Also, my full term baby is sleeping very well, a pleasant surprise.

What is harder that I thought it would be: Getting organized. I was overconfident since I am the control freak teacher. Since my 3rd is also a girl, I thought "piece of cake", I have everything I need. Well, I do, but this singleton is gaining weight so much quicker than the twins that I don't feel like I ever have the timing right, when it's time to get the next batch of clothes out the upstairs closet. Also since I only have one, I didn't keep the daily feeding and diaper feeding charts that I did with the twins. I find myself asking "when did I last feed you?" on a daily basis.

Important summer milestones for Livvy and Mia: Toddler beds and swim lessons! Each one is a process. As is true with most learning processes, there are peaks and valleys. So, some nights and lessons are fabulous and others are torture.

Summer milestones for Sabrina: sleeping 8 hrs at night, smiling and laughing audibly, trying to sit up on her own, tracking Mommy and sisters every move, grabbing overhead toys on play mat

What you do you that make me laugh: Sabrina's laugh when she's tickled, it's contagious. How Livvy and Mia really think that they know all the words to every song. Of course, their love for dancing.

I want to cry when I see how the girls dote on their baby sister. In the midst of a major, classic, terrible two tantrum, they will just look at their sister and smile. With crocodile tears still on their cheeks, they say "Baby Rina happy" and like magic the meltdown is done.

It is bittersweet to hear my two year olds' speech develop. I am starting to hear Betty instead of Bubbie, Olivia instead of Livvy, complete sentences instead of one word answers and hear back & forth conversations. Just today, Mia told Livvy to get her another piece of watermelon "Get more watermelon" and Livvy promptly fetched it for her, saying "here" when she returned from the kitchen.

I am surprised that I have been able to get out of the house on my own as often as I have this summer. I have managed to stay involved on committees for sorority events, attend all 6 classes of my MOPS bible study, make lunch dates, dinner dates, play dates, and I have even seen 3 movies within a week of their opening days!

Obsession of the summer for Livvy and Mia is drumming. Just about anything they can get 2 of become drumsticks. They hit them together and count out loud "1, 2, 3, 4!". Just like Marina from Fresh Beat Band.

My hear melts when I get the unprompted "Thank you, Mommy".

Phrases often heard from the mouths of my babes:
I like this song.
I don't like this song.
Do you want me to read to you?
I want it.
I have it.
I do it.
NO! I do it.
It's not working.
Paper only!
And I mean it.
Girls, get in bed. (The last two are when they mock Mommy, if you didn't guess.)

As summer draws to a close, it's time to prepare for year 2 of MOPS, School for Little Children and year 3 of Familia. The twins will take gymnastics for the first time. Sabrina and I will spend some time at Gymboree. I can't wait to see that this school year brings for us.
